Job PurposeThe Breakdown Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of vehicle tyres by promptly addressing breakdowns and performing necessary maintenance activities.ResponsibilitiesKey Performance Areas
  • Breakdowns
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns, this might require working outside of regular hours or being on-call.
  • Travel to the designated location where a driver requires tire assistance.
  • Assess the nature of the problem.
  • Perform repairs on damaged tires, such as patching punctures, plugging leaks, and fixing flats.
  • Replace tires if the tire damage is irreparable or unsafe for further use, replace the damaged tire with a spare tire or provide a new tire.
  • Mount new or repaired tires onto the vehicle's wheel rims and ensure proper balancing to maintain vehicle stability and performance.
  • Documentation
  • Complete each breakdown sheet for invoicing and cross references correctly.
  • Complete attendance registers according to callouts done.
  • Complete tyre change slips for wheel changes and had them in timely.
  • Keep record of vehicle services.
  • Complete vehicle logbook correctly.
  • Make sure that all overtime worked is signed by Supervisor/Manager.
  • Asset Management
  • Ensures safe custody of tyres, tyre bay and tyre store.
  • Drive company vehicle safely.
  • Ensure all equipment is in good condition in breakdown truck.
  • Check stock Daily.
  • Customer Care
  • Advice & help customer.
  • Provide friendly service.
  • Take care of property assigned to you.
  • Have a neat appearance.
  • Health & Safety
  • Adhere to health and safety standards.
  • Adhere to traffic laws and regulations.
  • General
  • Undertake all reasonable requests and instructions, given verbally or in writing that falls within the parameters of own line of duty.
Qualifications & Experience RequiredEducation, Master, other certification
  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Driver's License
  • Basic knowledge of tyre types, sizes, and handling techniques.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Attention to detail and safety consciousness.
  • Forklift or machinery operation certification is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
Experience (years):
  • Computer literacy
  • Experience in the tyre industry will be an advantage.
Languages Skills:
  • English
  • Any local spoken languages
